Default What's the best tip you've ever gotten to improve your game?

A few weekends ago I let in a goal that I swear hit me square on the flat part of my trapper. It was as if the puck hit my glove and kept on going. So the next weekend I actually sinched the strap tight around my wrist...no goals deflected past me. :)

I got to thinking that everyone probably has at least one simple tip for improving their game? What's yours?

The goalie MUST be the best skater on the team in order to be successful. I swear by that rule, and I demand the best from my goalies. It is about the only thing that I am an absolute stickler about in a goalie's game, everything else can be shaped and molded, but the skating must be solid.

There are so many for me so i will post the most recent. I was having trouble shooting the puck. A few weeks ago there was a thread called passing power that basically turned into a big argument. Anyway the Turco grip was described there and i had never tried it. I can easily clear the puck out of my zone now and make quick accureate passes to my teamates. It is a huge advantage.
Have you ever had a dream that you were so sure was real? What if you could not wake up from that dream, how would you tell the difference between the real world and the dream?

Relax. Don't let the stupid little things get to you. If you let in a bad goal, shake it off and move on and stone the next guy.

The best advice I ever got was from Craig Anderson, he was waiting for us to get off the ice after morning skate, when he was rehabing his groin and was watching us play and mess around and stuff. He saw me get a little messed up after I let a weak goal in short side. As I'm coming off he says, "Hey Goal, can't help the past, that's exactly what those goals are, the past." Stuck with me since then and after a goal, there is exactly nothing you can do but start over and stop the next.

The best advice I've ever gotten from my 8 years of playing would probably be staying square to the puck; not the player. Sounds kind of dumb.. but it haves me SO many times!

Best advice I ever recieved came to me at a summer goalie camp when I was in high school: Play every game as if it were your last and always push through when you're tired and give your 110%. You may be tired and don't think you can push yourself to get the rebound but if you don't push yourself as hard as the guy shooting on you is to get that puck in the net is pushing himself you'll never make the save and let not only your team down but yourself as well. You are the only one you have to answer to at the end of the day. Even if it does go in you can't say you didn't give it your all to stop it.

Best advice: Just have fun out there. I was at a point where I was stressing out so much on different things like stats and score and whatever, but as soon as I cleared my head of all that crap and just had fun playing out there, my game improved dramatically.

I grew up with this same idea and agree. To this day, when I skate as a forward or defenseman for my team everyone is suprised that I can skate circles around them.

That has helped me a ton recently, most notably, my last game. Go down 5-2 a little more than halfway through the second. The last goal was a WTF goal, flat on the ice, but hit a bump about 4-5 feet in front of me. I was pissed at first, but then I thought, this'll make a great story on goalie crease! Thinking about that brought my attitude in net back up to the excited/having fun attitude that I have at the beginning of each game and we were able to come back and win 6-5.

The notes on the water bottle have helped a lot too. I am loving having reminders there!
