    Default Gravitykillr's Video's

so this is the first actual recording I've seen of myself playing in the 3 years I've been playing, it's not the greatest as the glass was wet when the recording started and didn't get much better throughout the game. Making me re-think my placement strategy as you can't see much of the right side of the ice.

    Thanks

    Ok here's some comments/suggestions...

    1. Keep your stick on the ice as much as possible. It's fine when you're standing there or the play is far away, but when they're coming at you. Make sure you put the blade down in front of you on the ice. You had it in the air 95% of the video, this is no good for anyone, except the shooter. At 2:27 was a perfect example, he scored 5 hole while your stick was in the air.

    2. This is still related to the stick... The way you hold it, it looks like your blocker is in front of your pad. This is giving you double coverage, and really ads to the holes that the shooter can see. The stick needs to be on the ice in front of you with your blocker over and above your pad to reduce the amount of double coverage. If you can't keep the stick on the ice in front of you, and your blocker needs to be in front of the pad to do so, you've got the wrong sized stick.

    3. Your VH at 4:16 was good, except it wasn't tight enough. You left holes, and once again your stick positioning is in need of work. You did the right move, just executed it badly.

    4. At 4:34, you're out too far considering your speed and ability. You make a good first save, but need to scramble to get back. You were almost 2 feet out past the blue paint. That works for Tim Thomas but he's super fast and athletic. You need to be slightly more conservative, come to the top of your crease, maybe even 6 inches out. There is no reason to be 2 feet out unless it's a breakaway and you're moving back with the shooter.

    5. At 5:23 the puck makes it past your paddle down and hits the far post. You don't see it, but you're also not making an attempt to look around and find it quickly. You just freeze.

    6. At 7:38, again with the paddle throwing you off balance a bit. You were in a great position. You went down, then got up came out at the shooter. Which was perfect, but a little off balance.

    7. Ok, this one is weird, at 8:17 you see the puck on your blue line. Did the guy tip it and change direction? You were moving away from the puck it seemed. If the puck is being shot that far out you need to come out to the top of the crease. There was no reason to be sitting back in the crease like that, other than maybe your confidence was shot at this point.

    8. Your defenseman didn't do much to help you on the 8:48 goal, you made the first save and it popped out. He should have taken out that winger coming in. Not your fault in my eyes.

Lastly, stay in your net, don't play the puck like that. I've learned the hard way too many times. LOL.

Keep that stick on the ice. What helped me a lot was keeping it outside my leg pads and getting into a deeper squat on my skates as to force my self to keep the stick on the ice. At that point two you can snap your pads down quicker and pop up to if needed. Only other thing is active hands. You cover up fairly well unless the deflections are at a bad angle. Active hands will help with those rebounds, hopefully stop some of them. Don't let that stick flare out(i'm bad at this too) generally when you feel out of position on a rebound when you react, its best to try to butterfly slide or get over there full body as that's more area for the puck to hit. Just some opinions, definatly don't have to take it as I'm no goalie coach but I like to help. Good luck out there.

Looked pretty sharp during this game from what is on the video. Still need to keep that stick down, sometimes it'd be fine but others it was way high. I couldn't tell if you were resting it on your pads and that's what was keeping it up or it is getting caught, that can happen if your hands aren't far enough forward. Not that your butterfly was bad but you took some shots right in the five hole, that you stopped but would've been stopped by the stick first or you could have deflected up to your body for an active hands stoppage. Once again, just my humble opinion but I do hope you get a win soon. Good Luck

actually won 3 in a row in-between the video's being taken just haven't had one where I've had the video camera with me. Thanks for the advice, I think it may be a a case of not having my hands far enough forward

Nice job on the wins. Hockey is fun, but more fun when you win!

Thanks for sharing the videos. Always a hoot to watch other goalies. Looks like you are having fun.
It looks like you go to paddle down style too early in situations where it might be better if you stayed up. Go to youtube and do a search on Carey Price and watch a compilation video.

Just curious, what stick and size are you using? It might be the right size for you, but you aren't disciplined in keeping your stick on the ice. Or, the stick is short and keeping it on the ice would put you in a deeper crouch, thus you couldn't play "upright". Check out the stance thread to get the scoop on that poop.

Thanks it's been a ton of fun playing in net, some games more than other obviously lol. I believe the stick is a 26.5', it's a bauer X50, I get the feeling it's just me because after the first video I made I realized I was doing it and I was good for a few games after and then kind of reverted back to the bad side.....at one point i taped 6 pucks to the back of my backup stick to force myself to keep my hands down, and used it during warm-up I might do that again and see if it works

It's also been fun doing the video's and having some fun with it.
