Oh, and please don't judge how long it takes me to get up in the video with me sitting on the ice haha. I was seriously running on empty.
This is a discussion on rfleming's skills and drills videos within the User Videos forums, part of the Video Training category; Bad habits that I'm working on so far: 1: Not checking my placement in the net before I come out ...
Bad habits that I'm working on so far:
1: Not checking my placement in the net before I come out to challenge.
2: Not coming out far enough to challenge.
3: Hand positioning still needs lots of work.
4: Endurance, these videos were shot towards the end of the hour long session, and I was gassed!
5: I still need work on getting up on the correct leg when tracking the rebound.
Hopefully in the next couple of months I'll post game videos and we will see improvements.

Backing up in to your net while the shooter is still way out; bad move. Only time you should be backing in like that is if the guy is coming in and trying to deke you. Stay out on top of your crease and challenge. Also stop dropping before the puck is even shot, this is going to make shooters dangle around you, or shoot high making you have to reach. But still you're new, not bad young man! :)

Thanks! I'm not sure about the young man part though, haha. Being 26 I don't think my knees are too happy that I'm starting serious hockey this late. I have two more sessions with the goalie coach and then games start and no more one on one. Trying to learn, retain and put into practice all the stuff I'm learning WHILE being dead tired is probably the second hardest thing about these drills sessions. The second hardest being my stamina.
I like the pads! Eventually you will get used to waiting for the shooter to make the first move. I'm excited to see more videos of you in the future!

hahah I know those days. During drop in sessions if im tired I usually just sit like that until the play comes back into my zone haha lazy I know
You guys need to work out.

I got some good workout tips from the coach yesterday. I played roller again today and I could feel my quads burning!
I need to find a workout partner because it would be nice to have someone to help push me when I reach the point of "I wanna stop, but I think I could more if I really have to."
