that is intense!!
Intense to say the least....
Holy crap I tried this today! I was only able to do it for about a minute at a time and did it three times. Granted it was at the very end of my workout.
It actually looks like fun! For me i hate working out as i have mentioned before, but if its fun at the same time im all for it.
You have to have someone willing to really wing the ball at you though, my wife just kind of underhands it or says "down" and throws it at the same time. We'll see how it goes today, hopefully we both improve.
What I really don't like about that drill is it makes your hands move in ways that are different than how you move in the game. You don't catch pucks in the palm of your hand; you catch them in the webbing between your thumb and your index finger. You don't catch pucks with your blocker hand at all; you deflect them away. Reaction training isn't just about building your reaction time, but it's also about ingraining into your mind how your body reacts. In this drill your body is being accustomed to reacting in a way that's not conducive for game play. Personally, I'd stay far away from this drill and any drill that imparts a bad habit into my reactions. At the very least, you should do this drill with your gloves on (and, if you're on dry land and want to make it challenging, put on all your gear except skates and helmet).
I've seen that before. It's basically multi-sport. Even though one does not move in the same way you do as a goaltender, it is a reactive drill, not a muscle memory drill. Kind of like agility ladders, no goalie or football player or baseball player moves in that way either but its useful.

I think its like when you do the exact same exercise for say biceps for an extended period of time. You need to change it or the body stops responding to that exercise. Also these guys do so much on and off ice training, this is just one of the exercises. Im sure there are lots of other goalie specific exercises they do as well.
That looks hard combining gross and fine motor skills
